CAROLYN J. CAVE PRESIDENT OF NEW LIFE SERVICES, INC.
INDICTED ON TAX CHARGES
(Wilmington, DE) - William M. Remington, Director of Revenue announced today that the Grand
Jury for the Superior Court in New Castle County returned an indictment against Carolyn J. Cave,
part-owner and officer of New Life Services, Inc., of Bear, Del.
Ms. Cave was charged with 10 felony and 2 misdemeanor Delaware state tax offenses amounting to over $42,000 of unpaid taxes.
The indictment consists of:
Four felony counts of attempting to evade or defeat personal income tax by underreporting
nearly $64,000 of income and failing to pay nearly $4,000 of tax for 1996, 1997, 1998, and 1999.
Four felony counts of failing to file and pay over to the State of Delaware $31,659 in employer
withholding tax for New Life Group, Inc. for tax years 1996 through 1999. (New Life Group, Inc. a
corporation that provides commercial janitorial services, was restructured as New Life
Services, Inc. in 1999.)
Two felony counts of failing to file and pay over to the State of Delaware $6,685 in employer
withholding tax for New Life Services, Inc. for tax years 2000 and 2001.
Two misdemeanor counts of failing to file and pay unemployment taxes for New Life Services,
Inc. for 2000 and 2001.
The four personal and six withholding tax offenses are felonies by law, and each is punishable by up to a maximum five years imprisonment and fines.
The two unemployment tax offenses are misdemeanors by law, and each is punishable by up to 1-year imprisonment and fines.
Ms. Cave was a co-founder, part-owner and vice president of New Life Group, Inc., a corporation that was formed in 1988 to provide commercial janitorial services. The business dissolved in 1999 at which time Ms. Cave became president of the restructured corporation, New Life Services, Inc., that offered the same janitorial services. Ms. Cave was solely responsible for the finances, payroll and tax filings for both New Life Group, Inc. and New Life Services, Inc.
The charges against Cave stem from an investigation conducted by the Delaware Division of
Revenue's Criminal Investigation Unit and referred to the Delaware Attorney General's office for indictment and prosecution.
Cave awaits arraignment and trial date in Superior Court in Wilmington.
