NEW LAW CHANGE FOR ANNUAL AP1 REPORTS - Effective July 2008, the State of Delaware has reduced the dormancy period for property coded as 'Security Property' or (SC) from five to three years. As a result, any Holder of Unclaimed Property coded as an SC under the NAUPA guidelines that also has property dormant for three or more years, must report that property type to the State of Delaware on the next Annual Report required to be filed after July 1, 2008. Therefore, reporting years 2003, 2004 and 2005 are required to be filed on the same filing date.

NOTE: The State of Delaware is requiring all reports for each reporting year to be filed as separate reports. If you have any questions you can contact Michelle Whitaker at michelle.whitaker@state.de.us, Camilla Ridgeway at camilla.ridgeway@state.de.us or Mark Udinski at mark.udinski@state.de.us.

  • Dormant Bank Accounts
  • Lost or Forgotten Uncashed Checks
  • Stock or Bonds, Dividends & Bond Interest
  • Insurance Proceeds
  • Utility Refunds

These are just a few of the many items that the Delaware State Escheator may be holding for you.

Do I have unclaimed property in Delaware?   How do I make an inquiry?

To claim property for a name listed, claimants must have their name appear on the published list, be an executor of an estate or an heir, and believe that they have reason to file a claim. Claimants must then complete the coupon that appears with the published list or download the coupon: PDF / word.

In addition to the coupon, all claimants must include a photo id of their driver’s license or other applicable identification before the claim will be initiated. Also, if inquiring about property not listed in their name, claimants must provide documentation demonstrating a legal right to claim the property (ex: a certified Letter of Testamentary or Small Estate Affidavit for Estates. A notarized Power of Attorney (POA) for a living person.)

Coupons should be sent to:

Delaware Division of Revenue
Bureau of Unclaimed Property
P.O. Box 8931
Wilmington, DE 19899
A claim form or request for additional information will then be mailed to the claimant for completion. Due to the size of this publication and the expected response, claims may take as long as sixteen (16) weeks from the receipt of the request to process.

Questions or concerns regarding a claim should be directed to 302-577-8782. Those in Kent or Sussex County Delaware may call toll free: 1-800-292-7826. Those residing outside Delaware may call: 1-800-828-0632.
